(Siran) Suny Kazanjian (1903 St. Petersburg, Russia-1972
Philadelphia)
was the eldest child (who lived to adulthood) of Grikor Mirzaian
Suni and Nvart (Natasha) Sonyants Mirzaian Suni. Siran (pronounced
"See-ron") was born while her father was studying
with Rimsky-Korsakov at the St. Petersburg Coservatory of
Music. Siran Suni sang in her father's choruses and performed
as a dancer in Suni programs. She was married to the writer
Levon Kazanjian (1889 Arabkir-1982 Philadelphia), with whom
she had sons Ara (Arik), Shara (Sharik, also known as Leon),
and Robert. Siran Suni's husband
Levon Kazanjian was the author of the 1923 introduction of
Suni to America: "Suni composed some of the sweetest
lyrical pieces in the realm of Armenian music."
